  2. 2.Miyasako East/West Stone Buddha Both are known as masterpieces of Stone Buddha in the region from the Heian era with bold yet elegant touch. It is supposed to pray for peace and prosperity. Location: Kudochi, Ogata-machi, Bungo-Ono

  3. 3.Harajiri waterfall (Asian Niagara) One of the Top 100 waterfalls in Japan. This 120 meters wide and 20 meters high waterfall was formed some ninety thousand years ago due to gigantic volcanic eruption of Mt Aso. Its dynamic view from the cable-suspended bridge right in front of the waterfall is truly magnificent. Location: Harajiri, Ogata-machi, Bungo-Ono

  4. 4.Tsujikawara Stone Bath The stone bath is heritage from the medieval era. Unlike the modern bathing, stone bathing is almost sauna as it used steam from the heated stone with herb laid on the stone. Location: Tsuji, Ogata-machi, Bungo-Ono

  11. 11.Sobo-Katamuki Quasi-National Park Sobo-Katamuki Quasi-National Park covers enormous 22,000 hectares stretching from south Oita to north Miyazaki. Location: Bungo-Ono

  12. 12.Mt. Ondake The Cherry-tree-lined road at the foot of Mt. Ondake look breathtakingly beautiful when in full bloom. The surface around the summit of the mountain used to be the sea bed. Location: Ondake, Kiyokawa-machi, Bungo-Ono

  14. 14.The ruins of Inukai port Flourished river port on the Inukai during the Edo era. "Surf Jizo" caved on the stone has been believed to pray for safe voyage. Location: Shimotsuo, Inukai-machi, Bungo-Ono

  15. 15.Inukai Stone Buddha Widely known because of famous poem composed by Akiko Yosano, one of the greatest women poets in Japanese history. Although it is Fudo (Guardian warrior), it shows peaceful expression. Location: Tabaru, Inukai-machi, Bungo-Ono

  16. 16.Tedori-Gando Pointed rock pillars overlapping in layers look mysterious. It was already mentioned in an old history book issued in the Edo era. Location: Utaize, Mie-machi, Bungo-Ono

  18. 18.Koukan bridge As its name means “rainbow over a valley”, this stone bridge looks excellent. The biggest existing stone bridge from the Edo era in Oita. Location: Sugo, Mie-machi, Bungo-Ono

  19. 19.Buried giant tree at Matsuo The remains of a giant tree found at the river bed is assumed buried ninety thousand years ago in the wake of volcanic eruption of Mt. Aso. The scorched surface indicates fierce heat of the eruption. Location: Matsuo, Mie-machi, Bungo-Ono
